How to be Indispensable
A few work place snafus that I have witnessed over the past week has led me to write this how to list.
1. Know your strengths. Whether you are sitting in on office or doing community service, you must know what you are good at and what you need help getting accomplished.
2. Let others know your strengths. I have found that lots of people have skills that aren’t necessarily part of their job description but are highly useful. Don’t be afraid to let your peers know that you have particular skills.
3. Prioritize. Don’t be afraid to prioritize what is actually important. Sometimes this means saying “no” or “I don’t have time now.” People will appreciate your honesty.
4. Do what you say you are going to do…..and if you can’t let others know in plenty of time so they can make other arrangements.
5. Do some research. It’s easy to learn by visiting your local library. I have done this to learn new software or other skills that helped me get my work done or help others.
6. Be proactive. I get asked to do a lot because many times I recognize issues and take action without being directed. If a problem exists, you are probably not the first to see it, but you can be the one to help fix it.
